About Riverwood

Visit VAM in The Riverwood Conservancy

Our premier visual arts centre and gallery is in The Riverwood Conservancy, 150 acres of tranquil wilderness nestled along the banks of the historic Credit River. Built exclusively for VAM by the City of Mississauga, the facility was designed by architect Brian Brownlie and inspired by the Prairie style of Frank Lloyd Wright, utilising slate and cedar on the exterior and floor-to-ceiling windows in its studio classrooms.

The property has a rich history; it was a local Haudenosaunee hunting ground in the 1400s, housed early farmsteads in the 1800s, and became a private country estate in the early 1900s.

Riverwood contains one of the largest mosaics of vegetation in the Credit Valley and is home to 46 species of birds and animals. The public MacEwan Terrace Gardens includes aquatic, herb, kitchen, moss and fragrant gardens including the award-winning Enabling Garden located alongside the historic MacEwan Barn.

We value the collaborative relationship we have with our fellow Riverwood stakeholders, The City of Mississauga, Credit Valley Conservation, and The Riverwood Conservancy.
