A wife and a mother of two girls in her 50s’ who only discovered the magic of painting during Covid Lockdown in 2020! I did not know that I have this in me… It all occurred during Covid lockdown in 2020. We could not go anywhere or do much so most of us ended up watching TV, cleaning the house, and decluttering. I was tidying up and getting rid of clutter and found my daughters’ old canvases and paints when they were in school. Since we cannot go anywhere or do anything, I started painting rocks in our backyard to get distracted. We could not get together with family and friends. I had all emotions brewing inside due to fear of the virus, concern over loved ones that we could not visit, sadness over people we lost, regrets because of the vacations we could not take and excitement when hearing good news. All these feelings became the root of all my artwork. Every time strong emotions come up, I picked up a brush and leave the mortal world to go to my own world. My work is a collection of a variety of emotions, collection of experiences, places visited and wish to visit. If a situation triggers sadness, anger, stress, and excitement. I pick up a paintbrush and start something on a canvas. Looking back, now I realize that it was my brain’s way of protecting my sanity by being distracted from all the negativity that was happening. It is about extracting feelings and expressing them by creating something positive. That is the power of my artwork. Every painting represents strong emotions during that time of creation. At first, it was exceedingly difficult to let go of these creations as each of them reminds me of a specific situation which resulted in the inception of each art piece. Now, my home ran out of walls, so it is bringing me joy to see it hanging on someone else’s home and knowing that my expression brings them delight and cheer. Depending on the mood and stimulation, the artworks are a range of styles of impressionism. Overall, I continue doing this as it brings joy, peace, and satisfaction to me to everyone who are being touched by them.
