Prismatic BIPOC Residency

VAM’s Prismatic BIPOC Residency brings together two emerging artists to create and collaborate with two established artists for a final exhibition. Prismatic BIPOC Residency is generously funded by the Hazel McCallion Foundation.

  • Serena Sutherland

    Mentor
    Serena Sutherland, also known as Miss Daisy, from Mississauga, ON. An "Eccentric Eclectic Expressionist," she excels as a creative director, entrepreneur, mixed media artist, and more. Her work is inspired by subjective and objective reality, she uses nature as a base for her creative expression and her imagination as a catalyst.
  • Gabriel George

    Mentor
    Gabriel George, an Indo-Canadian artist born in Kerala, India, draws inspiration from futurism, science, and nature. With a background in film & advertisement art direction, he is studying at OCAD University for the Sculpture & Art Installation Program. His innovative works, spanning various mediums, have been exhibited in Canada and India.
  • Sarah Liyao Taylor

    Mentee
    Sarah Taylor is an artist born in Wuzhou, China and raised in Ontario, Canada. Their work is inspired by the complexities of identity, the human experience, and the ways in which we understand ourselves and the world around us. Although Sarah is best known for her sculptures, she also enjoys exploring various mediums including painting and photography.
  • Kim Cheung

    Mentee
    Kim Cheung is an artist at the beginning of her journey to explore the world and human interaction through her art. She works with ceramics, print making and collage, however the sky is the limit with what can be used to create art. Her art starts with experimentation, spontaneous ideas, and a list of unanswerable questions.
