Diana Nadia Lawryshyn is a Ukrainian-Canadian artist based in Toronto. Her wood grain-based paintings explore pareidolia: the human impulse to derive images and meaning from ambiguous forms. Beginning with an abstract, gestural underpainting, each painting evolves as faces, figures, and other forms emerge through her response to the natural patterns embedded in the wood grain.
Rooted in early training in visual fundamentals, Lawryshyn deepened her practice through cross-disciplinary study while completing a Master of Music degree. Her musical background continues to shape her approach, informing the rhythmic structures, repetitions, and vibrational qualities that organize her visual language.
Diana’s work has been exhibited locally and internationally, with highlights including Nuit Blanche Toronto, the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair, Oshawa City Hall, and the Kavaleridze Museum (Kyiv, Ukraine). She has received recognition in multiple juried exhibitions, including ‘Best in Show’ at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery and ‘People’s Choice’ at the Station Gallery.
