Adding d-rings and wires is required for all artwork to be hung within Visual Arts Mississauga exhibit space(s), including framed artwork and canvases (framed or unframed).
We will not accept:
- Existing hooks attached to a store-bought picture frame
- Artwork without a wire
- Hooks that are not securely attached through the wood frame/loose/faulty
- Wire that is not secure/loose/faulty
- Sawtooth hangers (this is not compatible with our hanging system)
Any and all hardware that looks insufficient will be turned away

Acceptable Hardware
You can purchase the required supplies at home hardware stores, typically found in the “picture hanging” aisle, or, have them installed at a frame store.
You will need:
- D-Rings & Screws
- Wire
- Wire Cutters
- Measuring Tape & Pencil

If you cannot find D-Rings, these alternatives are also acceptable:
- Triangle Rings
- Eye-Hooks / Eye-Screws
- Picture Frame Hardware Attached to the Frame

As a general guidance, your rings and wire should be placed as high as possible to prevent your artwork from learning too far forward from the wall.

How to Install Hanging Hardware
Turn your artwork over, so the back of the frame/canvas faces you, then:
1. From the top of the artwork, measure from the top of your piece with a measuring tape or ruler.
2. Mark this measurement on the left and right sides of your frame
3. Using a screw, install each D-hook at this marking, with the loop portion facing towards the middle of the frame.
4. Cut a piece of wire a minimum of 8” wider than the horizontal width of your frame
5. Loop one wire into the d-hook, creating a minimum 4″ tail you can use to wrap the wire tail tightly around.

6. Pull the wire tight across your artwork piece, and repeat on the opposite side. Note that you do not want too much slack in the wire, and especially not exceeding the top edge of your artwork.
7. When you are done, tug to ensure your hardware is secure.
